Vanskeligt

The sassolungo represents the Val Gardena and it's one of the important mountains here in the surroundings. Climbing up the forcella you will get a fantastic view of the mountains which sourrounds us. Walking up until the forcella you will appreciate the astouning view of the Sella and the Marmolada. You have a lot of possibilities to walk there around and also for climbers there are no limits.

With the bus or the car through the Gardena valley reaching the Passo Sella / Sellajoch.

The beginning of the hike around the Sassolungo offers one of the most spectacular trips in Val Gardena. The circular lift from Passo Sella to Toni Demetz hut leads to the highest view point in Val Gardena and is a tourist attraction. Another special feature of this cable car are the cabins, which have the appearance of elongated capsules and place for two people including backpacks. The cable car ride is impressive thanks to the view from above over the "City of Stones", a heap of collapsed rocks at the foot of the Sassolungo. The mountain station is located right next to the Toni Demetz hut. For hikers that want to reach it by foot it takes about 1.5 hours, the serpentine path leads between the Punta Cinque Dita and the steep walls of the Sassolungo.

Behind the Toni Demetz hut you can start your journey immediately towards the Vincenza hut or first observe the countless climbers attached to the walls with binoculars. You will then descend from the glacial cirque along an uncomfortable but easy serpentine path, also here you have a spectacular view on the rocky walls and on a part of the Alpe di Siusi. At the end of the cirque, there is not much left to do at the Vicenza hut.

From the Vicenza hut pass by the 525 serpentine path. From here you walk along path 526 to the right that leads to Passo Sella, before leading in the plain on green slopes along the eastern walls of the Sassolungo massif. Then continue on the northern side of the Sassolungo over a vast field of debris with small climbable stretches towards the Emilio Comici hut. Two paths lead over debris directly under the walls of the Sassolungo: an upper path (526 A) and a lower path parallel to the first (526). At this point, between the rock and the debris there is still some snow left even during summer time. Continue on green slopes covered with debris to the Emilio Comici hut. From here the path climbs southwards with a slight slope towards the tone of rockfall called "City of Stones". Then it continues towards Passo Sella, where you can admire once again the imposing parts of the Forcella del Sassolungo.

Alternatively, from the Vincenza hut, go down the 525 serpentine path towards Monte Pana. The path leads through a forest of pine and larch trees. You descend through many, not too steep, bends towards the bottom of the valley. You ignore a path that deviates from the main path and continue to descend towards the Plan de Cunfin. The Plan de Cunfin is not only a pearl of the landscape, but also an important water reservoir for Val Gardena. The path leads through the woods to Monte Pana, from where you have a spectacular view of the Sassolungo. On Monte Pana you can descend to S. Cristina by foot, by chairlift or by car.
