Tour to the Grasleitenhütte and the Schlernhaus mountain huts

This route leads through towering rocks in the heart of the Dolomite Mountains which, due to their unique attributes, have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2009. Along the route you will find three magnificent mountain huts to relax from the challenges of the hike. Views over the nearby peaks of the “Pale Mountains” make this tour an unforgettable highlight. 

The set-off point is Weißlahnbad. Bus 176 will bring you to Tiers and then the bus 185 to St. Zyprian and from there you can hike to Weißlahnbad in half an hour. Alternatively, you can drive here. Parking facilities are available at the Visitor’s centre Tiers am Rosengarten in Weißlahnbad.

Bus service and timetables

Stage 1: The walk begins in the Weißlahnbad and leads through the wild, romantic Tschamintal valley and on to the Rechter Leger, a box-seat setting with views over the peaks of the Grasleitentürme and the Valbonkogel. Ascend through the Grasleiten Valley to the Refuge Grasleitenhütte mountain hut, the first stage destination of the mountain hut tour.

Stage 2: The next morning, the hut tour leads over a rocky glacier arena up the Molignonpass and on to the Refuge Tierser Alpl mountain hut, a wonderful spot for a midday rest. The terrain is flat to begin with, and becomes steeper as you ascend to the high plateau of the Schlern and on to the Refuge Schlernhaus mountain hut, the second stop of the tour.

Stage 3: If you climb up the Petz early in the morning on a clear day, you will witness a breathtakingly beautiful sunrise. The third and last stage of the tour leads you along the trail no. 1 down to the Seiser Alm.
