This mountain hut tour brings you to idyllically-located mountain huts, boasts breathtaking views and leads along spectacular hiking trails on the Tschafon, the Hammerwand and the Schlern to the Tierser Alpl. It is also one of the most challenging tours in the Seiser Alm area, but can be hiked in several stages, stopping off at the “Castles of the Dolomites” - The Refuge Schlernhaus - and the modern Refuge Tierser Alpl with its distinctive red roof for a break en-route.

The set-off point in Tiers and destination in St. Zyprian are linked with Völs by interurban bus no. 176. Alternatively, parking facilities are available in Tiers and St. Zyprian.

Bus service and timetables

Stage 1: The tour begins at the Brunnenplatz in Tiers am Rosengarten and leads past the St. Sebastian chapel and the Wuhnleger and up to the Tschafonhütte, the first stop of the tour. From the hut, a short climb will take you to the Völseggspitze with its breathtaking views.

Stage 2: From the Rifugio Monte Cavone, the terrain is flat to begin with and then leads in uphill bends towards the Hammerwand. The trail around the Hammerwand calls for a sure foot and a good head for heights. Proceed onwards to the grassy Tschafatschsattel and up to the Refuge Schlernhaus mountain hut. From the Refuge Schlernhaus, the tour leads you to the Schlern plateau and on to the Refuge Tierser Alpl mountain hut, the destination of the second stage.

Stage 3: The third stage of this hut tour leads out from the Tierser Alpl mountain hut over the spectacular Bärenloch gully, through the Tschamintal Valley and down to St. Zyprian.
