Planet Hike in San Valentino in Campo/Gummer

By using the scale of 1:1 billion to represent the solar system, in the ‘star village’ of San Valentino in Campo it is possible to hike from Mercury to Pluto in just a few hours. 

Take highway's exit “Bolzano Nord/Eggental”, turn right direction Bolzano/Bozen, after about 0,5 km on roundabout keep left and head towards Val d'Ega (SS 241), in Ponte Nova at the roundabout take the third exit to San Valentino and continue following the signs to the astronomical observatory (about 30 min. from highway toll booth).


With the public bus line 180, 181 or 184 to Ponte Nova and then change to line 182 or directly from Bolzano with line 182; bus stop: "Dörer Wiese"; online bus timetables: www.suedtirolmobil.info/en/

The route begins at the “Max Valier” astronomical observatory near the Unteregger tavern (1,315 m) in San Valentino in Campo di Sopra/Obergummer. From here, follow trail no. 5 to the Vajolet tavern, continuing on trail no. 5 to the biotope. Then pass the sign for the Planetenweg (planet trail) on trail no. 3 until you reach the Landgasthof Lärchenwald tavern (1,350 m). Continue on trail no. 1 as far as the next Planentenweg signpost. Pass by the Schenken car park (1,300 m) on trail nos. 3 and 5A until you reach the Moser Weiher pond and the next Planetenweg signpost. Continue on trail no. 5 to the Tschigghof farm (1,332 m). The last Planetenweg signpost is located near the astronomical observatory.
