Excursion to the Stone Age settlement of Enzbirch

This Stone Age Settlement includes a heavy overgrown hilltop, the ruins of a walled fortress, and great views of the Adige Valley.

Take highway´s exit “Bolzano Nord/Eggental”, turn right direction Bolzano/Bozen, after about 0,5 km on roundabout keep left and head towards Val d’Ega (SS 241). Keep driving up to Ponte Nova. At Ponte Nova’s crossroads, turn to the right and continue to Nova Ponente (about 30 min. from highway toll booth). In the centre of Nova Ponente there is free parking directly at Piazza Gibitz, where the hike starts.

The hike starts at Piazza Gibitz in the village centre of Deutschnofen/Nova Ponente. Turn left and follow the street in direction of Wölflhof farm. After 50 meters, turn left again and follow the church trail [K] across meadows and past beautiful farmsteads. On trail [10] you will reach the Höggerhof farm and Schadnerhof farm. Trail R leads you downhill to the rocky outcrop. Return to the village centre of Nova Ponente by following trail [10] until you reach the Wölflhof farm and then trail [E5].
