Via Ferrata Kesselkogel

Difficult

1h 21min 2,80 km 638 m max 2995 m

Via the West ascent from the Grasleitenpass region, one can reach the Kesselkogel via a via ferrata. The summit offers breathtaking views of various mountain groups such as the Brenta, Adamello and Ortler groups, the Stubai Alps, and the Zillertal Alps. In the immediate vicinity, one can also observe the Rosengartenspitze and the Vajolet Towers, the Geisler and Puez groups, the Langkofel, the Sellagruppe, and the Marmolada. In the background, the Antelao and the Civetta can be seen. It is advisable to take your time during the climb and enjoy the scenery. A special highlight is the view of the turquoise-blue Antermoia lake!

At the beginning of the via ferrata, one passes through a chimney and then descends to a sandy rock bank via a ladder. This spot is very exposed and requires absolute freedom from vertigo. From here, rock steps lead up to a notch, and further on, one goes up to the summit via a slanted rock band and an exposed north ridge. The descent follows the same route as the ascent.

An alternative descent route is possible via the secured east side. Here, one goes along wire ropes to the rock band that cuts through the east face of the Kesselkogel. The path then leads downhill over scree and two ladders to a saddle and further into the Antermoia valley. From here, one can reach the Grasleitenpass via the Antermoia pass.
