Hans and Paula Steger were very significant figures for Seiser Alm, as they played a key role in the development of alpinism in the Dolomites as ski racers and mountaineers. The Hans & Paula Steger Trail is a tribute to their achievements and offers hikers the opportunity to learn about the nature and culture of Seiser Alm through informative signs along the trail. Additionally, hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Dolomites on this easy path.

 

To reach Seiser Alm, take the Seiser Alm cable car or bus line 10 to Compatsch. The road to the Seiser Alm Nature Reserve is closed to private traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Within this time frame, you can access Seiser Alm via the Seiser Alm cable car or bus. Departure from Compatsch is possible at any time.

The hike begins at the mountain station of the Seiser Alm cable car in Compatsch and leads first to the St. Franziskus Church, where the Hans and Paula Steger Trail begins. Path no. 30 runs through wide meadows and crosses the road. It then passes by the Hotel Steger Dellai and meets the road to Saltria. After turning right, the trail leads down a wide alpine path through a stream valley. The hike continues through the forest and over alpine meadows before reaching the Laranz mountain hut. From here, trail no. 12 branches off to the left and leads down to Saltria. The last section of the hike leads upstream to Saltria. If desired, you can comfortably take the Almbus back.
