The Schlern is the most popular hiking destination in the Seiser Alm holiday region. The Schlernhaus, which sits on the mountaintop, is also known as the "Castle in the Mountains". From here, you have a breathtaking view of the Dolomites. This view will stay with you forever.
A two-day hut hike to the highlights of the Seiser Alm is a great way to experience the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites and the surrounding mountain world. The first stage leads to the Schlern, which is also the symbol mountain of South Tyrol due to its unique shape. The next day, you will go to the Tierser Alpl, a private mountain hut with its distinctive red roof. From here, you can admire the Seiser Alm from above.
The start and end point of this tour is Compatsch on the Seiser Alm. To get here, take the Seiser Alm cable car or with line 10 from Seis am Schlern via Kastelruth. Parking facilities are available at the valley station of the Seiser Alm car.
The road to the landscape conservation area Seiser Alm is closed to private traffic from 9.00am to 5.00pm. During this time you can get to the Seiser Alm by the Seiser Alm cable car from Siusi or by bus from Kastelruth. You can descend from Compatsch at any time.
Day 1: Hiking to the Schlernhaus

On the first day of the hike, you will hike from Compatsch on the Seiser Alm to the Schlernhaus. The Seiser Alm is easily and quickly accessible by the Seiser Alm cable car from Seis am Schlern. From Compatsch, you either walk or take the chairlift towards Hotel Panorama. After about a kilometer, you turn right onto hiking trail no. 10. This trail leads in numerous bends to the Schlern plateau and to the Schlernhaus. The Schlernhaus is located at an altitude of 2,457 meters and is also known as "the castle in the mountains" because of its unusual appearance.
A tip for nature lovers is to watch the sunset on the Petz, the highest point of the Schlern. The summit is accessible from the Schlernhaus in 15 minutes. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent 360° panoramic view of the Dolomite peaks in the evening light.

Day 2: Hiking to the Tierser Alpl

On the second day of the hike, you will hike from the Schlernhaus to the Tierser Alpl. The trail leads over the Schlern ridge towards Roterdspitze. There, the trail turns off and leads steeply down to the Tierser Alpl. The Tierser Alpl is located at an altitude of 2,441 meters and is a private mountain hut with a distinctive red roof.
After a lunch break at the Tierser Alpl, you start a short hike to the Rosszähne. From the Rosszähne, you have a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Then, you hike back to Compatsch via the Seiser Alm.
