Kastelruth - Tisens - Tagusens

Medium

2h 30min 6,00 km 108 m

Below Kastelruth stands a group of houses and a church with a pointed tower. This is the hamlet of Tisens (925 m). From Tisens, the path continues over green meadows to Tagusens. From there, you have an unobstructed view of the northeast slope of the Val Gardena with the towns of Lajen and St. Peter, the wide fields of the Alpe di Siusi, as well as the slopes of the Ritten mountain and the villages of Barbiano and Villandro. The school museum is also located here.

Within the area around Kastelruth, there is a small village called Tisens, which can be easily reached in half an hour. The starting point for this tour is the historic village square in Kastelruth, from where you walk through the right arch and then along a downhill paved road to the Hotel Kastelruth and further to Tisens (No. 1). In Tisens, there is a small church that was first mentioned in 1353. An exterior wall of the church is adorned with a preserved mural of Saint Christopher. Hiking trail No. 1 continues from Tisens (via a driveway), along the wooded slopes of the Bühlen. Soon, the Santner peak and Schlern disappear from our field of view, and we hike gently downhill to Tagusens (934 m). The chapel there is dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene and dates back to the 14th century. Inside, there is a beautiful altar with statues from 1752. The altarpiece titled "Christ Appears to Mary Magdalene" was created by Franz Unterberger. The hike can be continued as a circular route back to Kastelruth or one can return by bus.
