Seiser Alm

Walk on the Seiser Alm

Easy

3h 0min 6,00 km 43 m max 1856 m

The hike starts at Compatsch on the Seiser Alm, where you pass the new wooden Franziskus Church and follow the small asphalt road towards Saltria. This road is used by horse-drawn carriages and sleighs in both summer and winter, and you will pass by the Panoramalift guesthouse and through a pedestrian underpass to the Cionstoan natural monument, an imposing boulder by the roadside. From here, the route leads through gently rolling terrain to the wide meadow of the Großer Moos (1860 m). At a crossroads, you can choose to continue towards Saltria to the nearby Ritsch Schwaige guesthouse, or turn left towards Piz. If you continue, you will leave the asphalt road after a short descent (9%) and take the unpaved road to the Sanonhütte on the right. The road leads through beautiful alpine meadows and past some huts dominated by the splendor of the Langkofel group of rocks. A turnoff eventually leads down through the meadows to the Alm and the nearby Sanonhütte (1848 m). This part of the trail can be steep, bumpy, and narrow in places, and wooden footbridges are present to make the descent safer. The hut is open all year round and offers a pleasant stop for refreshments. The return journey follows the same route back to Compatsch.

A regular shuttle service and a barrier-free cable car transport day visitors from Seis am Schlern up to the Seiser Alm (Compatsch), as the Seiser Alm is only partially accessible by car (except for guests with disabilities and hotel guests on the Seiser Alm).
