Monte Pana – Saltria

Trudne

3h 29min 12,04 km 383 m max 1816 m

Our route begins on Monte Pana, a small high plateau 2 km above S. Cristina at the foot of the impressive Sassolungo Group. From there we follow the forest road (path no. 30), which is closed to motor traffic, in the direction of Alpe di Siusi. The first part of the route leads through the forest, after approx. 3 km we reach the route’s highest point, where a forest glade reveals a wonderful panorama of the entire Alpe di Siusi, the largest mountain pasture area in Europe. After another 3 km, we’ve reached Saltria. There at the bus stop we turn right and follow the path no. 30A back to Monte Pana. Shorter Variant: We turn after approx. 2.6 km onto path no. 531, which crosses path no. 30A and brings us back to Monte Pana.

Longer Variant: Past Saltria to the Hotel Tirler (path no. 9) to Zallinger and from there over the Ochsenwald forest (path no. 531), which ends at the forest road (path no. 30), by which we easily return to Monte Pana.

Val Gardena is located in South Tyrol, right in the heart of the Dolomites. The valley can be reached using the Brenner Motorway (A 22), exit Chiusa. Following the well-marked roads, you should reach Ortisei in about 20 minutes, then S. Cristina and Selva Val Gardena.
